GOD - Is He Really There?

This 3 letter word is probably the most important word in the history of mankind. No other word has had such a profound effect in the total psyche of the entire populace as ‘God’. So much has happened in his name that some people have started wondering about his existence & if he cared. Every religion existing in this world has fought or is still fighting a war to prove a point. And the point is, their interpretation of God is the correct one & the others are destined for hell. Maybe they reasoned that by fighting & killing those who opposed them, you are only facilitating the inevitable then, unless of course they see that, well your viewpoint is correct. So then what really is right? Who is this God whose mere mention can inspire great love or great anger? Is he seeing all this & enjoying the attention or deploring it? Why doesn’t he react? Can he react? Is he even there to react? Let us try and arrive at some plausible answers.
This universe that we see is so vast that it is impossible to really know how big it is. Millions of stars & planets together make a galaxy and ours is just one of the innumerable galaxies. For an entity to have created all this he must be so unimaginably powerful that it is even stupid to try & comprehend it. To believe that this huge universe houses just the one earth that has life form is not only arrogance but downright stupid. We humans like to believe that we are special to God. Are we really? I can assure you that somewhere else in this vast universe some intelligent entity from another race must be thinking the same thing. To even think that if there is such a creator & he has created the entire universe, then he had to be really stupid to create so much space for us humans alone. What is the point? I ask this of you; if someone asks you to create a house for a colony of ants would you then give it a space as big as shopping complex or just an anthill? If you can be logical about it what makes you think that God isn’t. Look around you & tell me you are not dealing with a super intelligent entity. The stupidity then, or is it vanity, that makes us think otherwise, is entirely human. If, god forbid, someday it is proved that there indeed is no life but that which exists on earth, then my friend I will say this to you; there indeed is no God & life happened by chance.
In my earlier post named Truth About Religion I had mentioned about how religion is a necessary evil. The thing with religion is it can be a means to the end but not the end itself. My reason for this is very simple. All religion is manmade. There is no existing religion in the world, or shall I put it this way, there no religion that is in the way that it exists today, that is anything but manmade. The fact that all religion has some inherent flaws means that it is not perfect & therefore it cannot be from God. Now take a look around the world. Is there a need for a God here? What is this God? What is he made up of? Does he have a form? Does he need a form? Wish I had answers that can be substantiated with proof. But I don’t & the fact of the matter is nobody does. Even the Vedas, the most sublime of the human works says in the ending, who knows what the truth is? But I can bet for sure that God is not what most religions make him to be, narcissist, vengeful, an object of fear etc. No bloody way. Period. What makes you think that an entity so powerful is dependent on your views of him on whether you are praying to him or not, that he is named correctly, that he be worshipped always…What crap. If indeed there is a God, he is nothing of the sort. Infact, nothing could be farther from the truth than the surmise that he is interested in our daily actions & is going to punish us if we do anything wrong. No absolutely not. Sorry to burst the bubble, but you & me are really not that important. Just stop fooling yourself. So if there is no direct involvement of God, how are things & actions accountable? What we have then are the Laws of Nature. Now we are entering the realms of speculation & no absolute proof. Just reasoning & contemplation.
What if there is more to these Laws of Nature than what we can see or experience. What if Newton’s Third Law of Motion works not just in physical but also in the metaphysical realms? Why is that not possible? Just because we cannot see it or experience in the conscious state does not mean that it can’t be. What is real & unreal? It is nothing but perception. Everything is in your head. There is more to it, much more to it. It is known that in ancient civilizations, certain sects used drugs to nullify the conscious mind so as to reach a state where it is easier to realize the truth, whatever that is. And by ancient civilizations, I do not mean just India. I mean the world over. Infact, I am sure most of us have seen in real or a snap of a saffron-clad yogi puffing on his ‘chillum’. Ever wondered what really happens when we are sleeping? I am not talking of the drifting in & drifting out of sleep periods of which we do have a memory of; No. But the intermediate long period of which nobody has any idea of what really happens to consciousness. Some equate it to death & I agree. How is it different other than the time period involved between the sleeping & getting up in both cases? Yes, I know, most of us, ironically, do take statements regarding rebirth with a pinch of salt. I say ironic because we Indians were the proponents of this theory or rather our predecessors were. And slowly but surely the west is coming around to accepting this as a fact. If there is any restriction to this in the mainstream it is because of things other than logic or science, namely religion and accepting which would mean disregarding a lot many things. The scientific mould of thinking is often given a lot of credence when the fact is that science itself is flawed. After all it is made by us humans so it cannot be perfect. We are constantly reviewing, changing & updating scientific flaws & funny thing is of all the people who swear on science it is the scientist who keeps an open mind because he knows not what new theory can come in tomorrow & prove him false. Charles Darwins’s Origin of Species & his Theory of Evolution has been more or less in the way of being disregarded due to lack of proof in support. If anything , more & more scientists are distancing away from this as a result of proof to the contrary. But just because we were taught in our school & it was the written word, people still quote is as the absolute truth and is quoted even in things theological. That is just one of the things that we have studied in school & does not necessarily have to be true. Point is there are more things happening around in this world that we as humans so not understand or have lost the knowledge of. It is a known fact now that most of what we are discovering now is not actually so but just rediscovery. It is knowledge that has been lost. So I am hopeful or rather sure that eventually we will get there & I am equally sure that we will one day lose all of it again. It is a cycle and I think I am going away from the topic here.
Anyway, coming back, if there is God & he is the Supreme Being that he is, what was the need for him to create? And if there is no God how & why did creation happen? Let us assume that the Big Bang Theory is true (I am saying assume because for all we know someone will come out with another theory tomorrow that makes more sense & this theory will be discarded. That is science for you). Then why did that occur in the first place? From where did occur, this unending supply of energy that led to the Big Bang & creation of the universe filled with Galaxies, Stars etc. What was the source of that? Who knows? The easy thing to do here is say that it was God who did it. A creator who is responsible for everything. Quite a few years ago someone I know, a very religious person told me something. That Nature is the true God. Even Krishna in Mahabharat says something to that effect. What I am trying to say here is what if Nature is God. That it is his manifestation & is the form in which he is present in the universe. It is a known fact that nature is intelligent. There is ample proof of that. I mean the chaos or madness that we see always has a method to it. That creation has formulae, mathematical, physics etc are applied is nw known & understood. Everything that we do today, all the technological marvels everything is due to the fact that these Laws of Nature are constant & unchanging. What has been true for billions of years will remain so. I mean as humans, nobody can say for sure that if a certain circumstance is to repeat again and again a person will do the same thing again & again with the same result. But if you ask that from Nature you are sure. If you throw a stone up then it has to come down always. Gravity is there always. Imagine what will happen if cement suddenly loses its properties of strength. These are things that we take for granted. And Newton’s Law works here too not only at a much bigger level but at different levels. So for every action that you do you have an equal & opposite reaction in the metaphysical realm too. How else can you explain what we see around in the world? Why somebody is born with a handicap, is poor etc… It has to be the result of his past actions. That is the only logical answer. Or, if popular religion is true, then God is a sadist. He has to be to allow so much suffering in the world. Or, using logic, he does not interfere. That what you sow is what you reap & thus you yourself are responsible for everything that happens or is happening to you. And so also the fact that you have the power within you to change it for better. If you believe in it.
So why do we pray? We pray because we need him & not because he needs us. Once this simple fact is understood by all & its implication in everyday life, world would be such a better place to live in. But like I had mentioned in my earlier post on religion. Things are changing for the better. Somewhere into the future I see a paradigm shift across human minds that will unite us in thought & will enable us to reach the heights that we are capable of. ‘Aham Brahmasmi’, the concept of ‘I am God’ will not be in the books alone. Its true meaning will be understood & practiced as common knowledge. To understand that we need to realize & take the first collective step. If there is a God, then he is to be loved & not feared. Once that realization sets in everything else will slowly follow suit. We will slowly begin to understand our place in the scheme of things & the importance of every single thing in nature. We will then learn to respect all life & then try to get to that high ideal for which life happened. To be the divine creatures that all of us really are. And some day, once again, that knowledge will be known & shall be shared as fact. And just as inevitable that is, so also the fact that surely we shall again return to the same kind of war-mongering and petty fights that we are capable of today. Everything is involved in a cycle of constant change. You, me, this country, this world, the universe. Everything changes. Except God & his Nature.
